Job Description of Library Director

FLSA : Exempt
STATUS: Full Time
Compensation: $50,000-$55,000 Salary based on education and experience.
Benefits: CALPERS Retirement Pension
Time Off: Vacation and sick leave will be accrued at a rate of 8 hours per category per month worked, and will roll over yearly.
General Summary:
This position requires the ability to handle complex administrative, supervisory and professional duties requiring adherence to professional standards of accuracy, confidentiality, integrity and tact. Under the general direction of the Library Board, has responsibility and authority for organizing and managing the Library operation and for planning, directing and coordinating its program of service to the community. This position requires a standard work week of 35 hours and participation in various meetings and work-related functions outside the standard work week.
Library Director Job Responsibilities:
Library Director Qualifications / Skills:
Knowledge of library techniques, methods and procedures as they apply to public library administration.
Ability to hire, train, and supervise employees; coordinate and delegate workloads and work schedules; evaluate work performance; and maintain high standards of library service.
Knowledge of the unique rural community in which the Library is located.
Ability to organize and direct the growth and development of the Library.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and other agencies.
Ability to resolve conflict; ability to lead and motivate staff.
Knowledge of a variety of computer programs, including Gsuite, word processing software, design software, spreadsheets, social media applications, and website design/updating.
Ability to carry 25 pounds, bend, lift, and twist.
Understanding of confidentiality and protecting the privacy of patrons, volunteers, and staff.
Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively both in written and oral form.
Creative decision-making and initiative to make independent decisions based upon experience, knowledge or training.
Ability to manage time and prioritize projects as needed.
Library Director Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university plus five (5) years of staff management experience OR a Master's Degree in Library Science from a recognized college or university.
Five (5) years of experience in working with the public/customer service.
Evidence of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
