What is Del Norte Reads?

Del Norte Reads is a free, learner-centered program that helps Adult and English Language Learners achieve their literacy goals. We are successful because of the generosity of volunteer tutors that share their time and expertise. Tutors and Adult Learners are matched based on the learning goals, interests, and availability. 

What services are available?

 Del Norte Reads offers Adult Literacy, Family Literacy, and English Language Learner services to the community The service is based on the desired learner goals. Here are some examples of learner goals:

  • Access community resources (such as WIC, Medi-Cal/Medicare, CalFresh, or other services)
  • Get involved in the community (such as volunteer at a community organization, school, place of worship, etc.)
  • Read a medicine label (or other health-related documents)
  • Help a family member with homework and studying
  • Access help with family legal documents
  • Learn the alphabet, letters, or sounds
  • Read a more difficult book 
  • Perform current job better
  • Get a job or a better job
  • Get a driver’s license
  • Become a citizen
  • Learn math skills
  • Interview for a job
  • Search for a job
  • Apply for a job
  • Prepare to vote 
  • Earn a diploma
  • Pay bills

How do I become a tutor?

We are only successful with the generosity of volunteer tutors  that share their time and expertise; volunteers make a difference in the lives of individuals in our community!

How is Del Norte Reads funded?

 Del Norte Reads works in conjunction with the Del Norte County Library District. The program is grant funded by California Library Literacy Services , and thrives when connected to the community through partnerships. 

What are the hours and where is it located?

Currently Reads is only open by appointment, but regular hours are coming soon!
