The Del Norte County Library District is currently seeking a board member who is committed to serving the community through open and equal access to cultural, intellectual, and informational resources. A board member’s primary responsibility is to set the budget and vote on policies to align with our mission, vision, and values. 

Board Member Responsibilities: 

• Make the commitment to work and lead with determination, integrity, and purpose
• Regularly prepares for and attend required board meetings 
• Provide leadership for all strategies and fund developments of the organization
• Regularly assessing the board and its function
• Maintain objectivity 
• Participate in an honest evaluation of one’s own performance and that of the other board members
• Advocates for and maintains relationships with the community, financial supporters and other organizations
• Act and make decisions in the best interest of the Library and avoid conflicts of interest

Desired Skills and Experiences: More than one of these requirements is preferred:

• Previously (or currently) serving on a board or executive leadership role in corporate, nonprofit or government sector (Strategic Planning, Management)
• Leadership or involvement in community, school organizations, community outreach (Public Advocacy)
• Expertise in philanthropy, fundraising and/or marketing
• Expertise in board governance
• Passion and skill set for general education and/or literacy
• Expertise in accounting with familiarity in non-profit financial management
• Expertise in law with familiarity in non-profit legality and contracts

Responsibilities: The board of library trustees shall make and enforce all rules, regulations, and bylaws necessary for the administration, government, and protection of the library  under its management, and all property belonging to the Del Norte County Library District. California Education Code § 19460

Trustee term of office is from the last Friday in November following election for four years.

In the event of a trustee resigning, the Trustees will recommend to the Board of Supervisors a person to serve the remaining term of the trustee who resigned. The Board of Supervisors appoints the replacement trustee.
